Moving Checklist for Newlyweds – Married Couples

Sometimes moving can be stressful and not easy but I am here to give you the ultimate moving checklist to help make moving easier and more fun. My husband and I have already moved twice since we met. First time was after we got engaged and second time was after we got married.

Moving Checklist

Moving Boxes
  1. Check all your rooms for items you no longer need or don’t want to move so that you can either donate them, or give to family and/or friends, or throw away. (We donated some of our stuff to Goodwill and Salvation Army – check your area if you have these places around).
  2. If are renting a truck and asking family and/or friends help you move then let them know ahead of time.
  3. In case you are hiring a moving company, do your research to make sure the company is good and reserve ahead of time. Consider looking for reviews on Yelp (that’s what we did).
  4. Order moving supplies such as boxes and tapes – more on that below.
  5. Pack your items and label the boxes by room so it’s easier to find stuff.
  6. Let utility companies know of your move at your current and new locations so that you can either cancel or transfer services or set up new services. Utilities such as electric, water, gas, internet, etc.
  7. Complete a change of address on USPS so that your mail can be forwarded to your new address.
  8. Advise your family and friends of your new address so you can keep in touch.
  9. Don’t forget to let your doctors, banks, credit cards, student loans, DMV, work, etc. know of your new address.
  10. Once you move, consider looking into USPS Informed Delivery so you always know when something is being delivered and what is being delivered. It is a free service. (We love it because it’s nice to know every day via email or app what mail is coming our way).

Fragile Boxes

So moving companies charge by the hour and if they do packing, loading, unloading, and unpacking for you, that can get pricy. In order to save some money, we usually pack and box everything ourselves and let the movers load and unload the boxes and furniture. Here are the supplies you will need for your moving if you pack without movers’ help:

Bubble Wrap to protect your items from breaking –

Boxes where you can place all your items –

Packaging Tape to tape boxes –

Sharpie Markers to label boxes –

Movers usually provide the wardrobe boxes free of charge so you can pack your clothes day of the move. In addition, movers usually wrap all the furniture and mattresses so they don’t get damaged or scratched.

In Conclusion:

I hope you find this moving checklist helpful and useful for the next time you have to move.
