From In His Image Photography: Wesley-Justin Wedding-Le Meridien Charlotte
Wesley and Justin came to know In His Image Photography by attending several weddings of friends. We photographed several of Justin’s fraternity brothers’ weddings. We as a team feel fortunate to not only have photographed these couples but to also have been a part of Justin’s proposal to Wesley and their wedding day! Wesley and Justin created a wedding where you instantly felt welcome.
Q and A: Wesley-Justin Wedding-Le Meridien Charlotte
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Our venue, Le Meridien Charlotte, was absolutely beautiful. We were drawn to the modern accents around the hotel, the gorgeous chandeliers and mirrors in the ballroom, and that we could comfortably seat all of our guests.
Winter boho glam was the theme I created for the day. I said everything needed to be “glam, romantic, elegant & inviting.” I wanted glamorous elements, but for things to not look too rigid. The color pallet was gold and winter white, with burgundy and blush accents.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
The majority of our decor was DIY! I really have to thank my parents and wedding planner for helping make my vision a reality. I wanted tall trees to be a part of the ceremony and reception decor and they found Crepe Myrtle branches we were able to use. Also we had a lot of Mercury glass that was DIY.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
The flowers in the wedding helped bring in the bohemian element. We had three different centerpiece themes featuring flowers with gold manzanita trees, mercury glass vases, and lanterns.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
We jumped the broom!
Our dog Watson was our ring bearer! He did a great job and we were so happy he could be there with us.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Justin and I both had great experiences shopping for our wedding day looks. Dress shopping was fun for me. I kept my shopping group small, with only my mother and wedding planner. I went back after looking at other locations to a dress I found on the first day of shopping! I got my Madison James dress from Anjolique Bridal in Cornelius, North Carolina. I decided to add an overskirt to my dress to create a ceremony look with a different silhouette. I was fortunate that my wedding planner was also a seamstress and was able to create a custom look for me!
Justin selected his tux from Savvi Formalwear. We wanted a look change for the reception so he changed into a burgundy tux jacket and different shoes. His bow tie was custom-made by my mother from Vlisco wax fabric that had gold metallic, white and burgundy colors.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
Justin and I were introduced by his sister Donna and her co-worker Debra who is a close friend of my family. They thought we would be a perfect match and worked for at least two years to get us to say hello to one another. One day Justin reached out to me on Facebook and he seemed like a nice guy. But it was a flight cancellation at RDU airport for Justin that led to us actually meeting. Justin thought of me and instead of driving home to North Wilkesboro right afterwards he reached out and asked me if I would like to go to dinner. That was our first date.
Justin planned the perfect proposal at the same restaurant where we went on our first date, Cuban Revolution in Durham, NC. He had just accepted a job in Atlanta, Georgia, and under the guise that we would be celebrating the new job and how supportive I had been through the process, he told me we would be going out to a nice dinner. I went with the flow for once and was truly surprised when we were guided to a private room after arriving at the restaurant.
I was happily surprised when Justin proposed & quickly said yes! Also part of the surprise was that Justin worked with Dajuan, from In His Image Photography, to be there to capture the special moment. Then, to make the moment even more special, our family and friends were waiting on the ground floor of the restaurant to join us to celebrate our engagement. It was truly special and perfect for us.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
The most special moment was definitely walking down the aisle with my dad & seeing Justin waiting at the end of the aisle. We exchanged notes before the ceremony and that was also a really special moment. Even though I couldn’t see Justin I knew he was getting emotional it was very sweet!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
For the brides in the middle of wedding planning, hang in there! It is amazing how everything comes together. Just make sure you have a great and reliable team around you on the day of your wedding. I was able to be calm and relaxed on the day of, and completely unaware if anything was not going according to plan.
