Tanya & Marshall became Mr. & Mrs. on May 27, 2017 on a beautiful spring day in Sydenham Ontario on the property of the groom’s parents. Everything was perfection, from the little bits of pink and the handmade arbor the groom’s dad constructed. I fell in love with the property as my assistant Nicole and I wandered around the day before, finding little treasures here and there – including an old canoe in the back part of the property, which I used just before sunset with the bride & groom.
The decor was a perfect combination of rustic and sweet – wheelbarrow for drinks, an old door for the seating arrangements and beautifully painted signage. I think my favourite part of the day, was when Tanya had a ‘first look’ with her dad before walking down the aisle. Trying to shoot while having tears in your eyes, is pretty difficult ! – Amy
Q and A – Tanya-Marshall Wedding-Sydenham:
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
It was everything I wanted it to be! Words can’t express how happy I was that day, not just because I finally got to marry the man of my dreams, but also because everything was absolutely perfect! I would call my theme Country Romance, with zero burlap. My wedding colors were light pink and mint green because pink and green are my favorite colors. I would say the only tradition we followed was the something old, new, borrowed and blue.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
The ceremony décor was simple yet elegant. We had a beautiful arch made of birch wood that my father-in-law, Mark Pierce, built and we added floral décor to it. Other than that I had a sign I made that read ‘Today I marry my best friend, the one I live for, laugh with, dream with, Love’.
Around the grounds I hung small jars from trees, that contained tee light candles, and we had baby’s breath lining the garden around the house. The reception was breathtaking. I used MT Designs for our head table backdrop, lighting was provided by Bustini’s Catering, and the rest was DIY. From the centerpieces to each table set up for the extra like my remember table, gifts for the guests, and more.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
My favorite flowers are peonies and roses so they were used in most floral décor, from the centerpieces to the bridal bouquets. They added to the romance theme I had chosen, as the roses and peonies were a soft pink and the filler was a mixture of soft greens and cream colors.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
My thing is photo booth backdrops, so I absolutely had one of those. Everyone seemed to love it and had a blast.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Well I knew I was getting a princess dress. For me, it was love at first sight. The dress that I chose ended up being the second dress I tried on and from that moment on I didn’t want to take it off. The groom didn’t really have much say, we knew it would be a rental to we went to Moores to see what color options there were, of course I picked out the most expensive rental option, but 100% worth it because it just complimented all the colors used that day. The groom wanted a bow tie though so I let him choose that.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met through a mutual friend when I was in grade 11, and he was two years older. We started hanging out bit by bit and the rest was history. 10 years later he proposed in our bedroom of all places, I was getting ready for bed and he asked me to sit down. It was the absolute cutest thing because even though it was just the two of us he was so nervous.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Finally saying I Do! Everything was kind of blur after that.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Don’t have any regrets. Plan your special day how you want it to be.
