Lizzie and Erik were married in a beautiful ceremony inspired by their love of nature. Their intimate guest count was perfect for the two lovebirds who wanted to spend the day surrounded by only their closest friends and family. They chose a venue that featured Bluebonnets, the state flower of Texas. As a surprise, Lizzie’s sister had her favorite dessert, cotton candy, brought in during the dance party. They danced the night away under twinkle lights in the venue’s rustic barn.
Lizzie-Erik Wedding-Wildflower Barn:
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
For our wedding, Erik and I wanted to keep things simple and tasteful! While neither of us has specific religious traditions, we are very inspired by nature and the beauty of the hill country. We chose the Wildflower Barn as our venue. We did not have a true color palette, but we did mostly pastel pinks, blues, and deep greens.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
We really wanted the beauty and simplicity of the Wildflower Barn venue to stand out the most. We had gorgeous wildflower floral arrangements at each table and incorporated a lot of extra greenery to make our guests feel like we were really outside in the hill country woods. The welcome sign and table frame were quick and easy DIYs.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
Other than the venue itself, the florist was the MOST important element of our wedding. We wanted our flowers to be large, beautiful, but with subtle pastel colors; we didn’t want our guests to feel overwhelmed by them. We used the flowers as our bouquets, centerpieces and our florist incorporated them into an arch as the backdrop for our ceremony.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
One of my favorite parts of our wedding was the cotton candy stand. We had a photobooth, DJ, dancing etc. but the cotton candy machine really added a special and unique touch that our guests LOVED!
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
As most things in our wedding, I wanted to have a simple but classic look as the bride. I had a skinny strapped low back lace dress. I chose this because of my shape; I wanted to accentuate my back and my arms. I kept my look pretty traditional and relied on diamond earrings from my husband and my oldest sisters pearl bracelet to add a sentimental touch!
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
Erik and I met in Houston at our favorite bar/restaurant, The Flying Saucer. Now there is a plate on the ceiling in The Flying Saucer-Houston location that reads something like, “Here I discovered many beers, brats, and my future wife.” Erik proposed to me in the backyard of our first home. It was quiet, intimate, and absolutely perfect.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
The most anticipated moment of our wedding day was seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony. I get teary just thinking of it!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Our advice would be to start early, be specific about what you want, and enjoy the ride. So many people stress over silly details that are unimportant in the long-run. Do everything you do with love, and you and your guests will have a blast! OH, and hire a day-of-coordinator 😉
