When I arrived everyone was hanging out at Leah’s childhood home. Leah was getting ready with her mom in her parent’s bedroom. Ryan and the guys were hanging around the kitchen table laughing and telling stories.
Throughout the day you heard story after story about how Leah had dreamed of having her wedding in her parent’s backyard. And that’s exactly what she and Ryan did!
From start to finish Leah and Ryan’s day was perfectly them in every way. The flowers were designed and largely put together by Leah herself. She works part-time at a local floral shop and her talent and artistic eye certainly showed that day.
The ceremony took place on the other side of Leah’s brother’s memorial garden right next to a row of beautiful trees. Leah (a photographer herself) planned this perfectly with the light of the day and it was absolutely breathtaking. It was important for her to have her brother be a part of the ceremony so she placed his wheelchair along with his photo at the front where the groomsmen would stand.
Butterflies surrounded us the entire day and they even followed Leah as her father walked her down the aisle. Everyone agreed that her brother Ross had been there with us that day.
The reception was filled with as much meaning and attention to detail as the rest of the day. Anyone that knows Leah knows that she is a dancer. She has been her entire life and continues to teach dance classes to this day. So I don’t think anyone was surprised when her and Ryan’s first dance was choreographed by her. Centerpieces she created filled the tables, and their favorite desserts were available for everyone to enjoy.

Happy Friday! ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ It's been a while since I introduced myself so I figured why not #fridayintroductions?⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ I'm Ashley! I'm the photographer behind this account. But I'm also a mother to the amazing Jubilee (#adventuresofjubilee). Wife to a wonderful husband, Shannon, who has been my rock for the better part of a decade. We also have two cats Firby and Smokey, as well as a fish named Parrot (who sometimes goes by JoJo). ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ You can almost always find me with a hot beverage in hand (I'm pretty much made of coffee at this point). I like to pretend I know what I'm doing with my garden (I don't). But I do have a house full of plants that I swear keep me sane during the cold South Dakota winters. Apparently, I can keep things alive only if they are inside. Game nights, coffee dates with friends, nights filled with music, and a good book are all things that truly fill my soul. I'm currently (and slowly) making my way through Atomic Habits by James Clear. Which I highly recommend! ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Truth time! I never really thought I would be a portrait photographer. I have my BFA in Studio Art with an Emphasis in Photography. But my passion always lied more in the darkroom. Experimenting with different chemical processes, printing techniques, and manipulating boundaries. Fun Fact! I actually have all the equipment it would take to set up my own personal darkroom just not enough time. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ But after I gave birth to my daughter a switch flipped. And I realized that I could tell stories, capture real moments, that my portrait work had a value that exceeded all of my expectations. I was giving people something they could hold on to. Something they could pass down from generation to generation. And I fell head over heels in love with my work.⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ So there is a novel about me! I would love to hear from you! What's your favorite way to drink coffee? Any current book recommendations? Any tips for a wannabe gardener? Did life ever take you down a completely unexpected yet joy-filled path?⠀ ⠀ ⠀
