From Amanda Moss Photography: Lauren-Michael Wedding
Lauren and Michael, both in the military, met and fell in love because they were completely and utterly perfect for each other. They planned their late summer wedding for September 16, 2017, a date that was incredibly special to them as it was Michael’s grandparents 50th wedding anniversary.
Unfortunately for them, someone had other plans. That someone was Hurricane Irma.
When the hurricane hit Florida, not only did it wash away their dream wedding, but it sent them off to service others affected by it.
That didn’t stop the two lovebirds however. Their love for each other and their desire to unite as one overcame their obstacles and they planned a new wedding. Although smaller and less detailed, their redo wedding was so incredibly special and significant. They still honored their grandparents and enjoyed a beautiful day.
Amanda Moss Photography heard about their story and drove down from North Carolina to photograph the wedding as a service to our Country’s service members. The two were so deserving and so appreciative of the offer, there was no way I couldn’t do it. I’m so honored to have captured this love. It is beautiful and perfect. And I feel if anyone deserved wedding photography, it was these two.
Q & A with the Bride: Lauren-Michael Wedding
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
We choose to honor my husbands grandparents within our special day. Nana and Papa are such an inspirational couple in our lives and we hope to emulate the love they have for each other in our own marriage. Our wedding date was scheduled to be on their 50th anniversary of marriage and our 5th year of dating. Our theme was intimate and romantic.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
My husband, bridesmaids, mom and my self-made all of the decor (DIY) we incorporated many vintage pieces from Nana and papa’s wedding as well in our decor.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
We used greenery throughout our ceremony and reception. I had very simple bouquets for my bridesmaids that we made ourselves. My head-piece and bouquet were very simple, with greenery, roses and wax flowers.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
We had our favorite restaurant cater our wedding. (We are in there at least once a week, and have made such great relationships with the staff! ) our groomsmen love to dance (and are actually pretty good dancers) so we played a lot of upbeat fun music.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Our first ceremony, we were married in our ABUs (Airman Battle Uniform) I had my hair slicked back in a bun and no makeup. I was so excited to see Michael waiting for me at the end of the aisle that I didn’t even care that I wasn’t in a big poofy dress. (What an honor to be able to be married in my uniform anyways) the second ceremony i was very lucky to have been able to be a part of Brides across America’s wedding dress event (they provide free wedding dresses to military members and first responders) at the Daytona speedway. I was able to bring all of my bridesmaids, mother and Nana to help pick my strapless, white trumpet gown. The most amazing part of my dress were the crystal buttons down the back and the matching crystal belt. Michael chose his suit based on his favorite color (Blue). We both had no idea what the other chose until we walked down the aisle.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met at an opening of a bar in Jacksonville Beach. We became friends and reconnected a year or so later and were inseparable. (He never officially asked me to be his girlfriend, so we had a running joke) We quickly found our favorite spots around Jacksonville, and would frequent them often. He surprised me one afternoon as I got home from work, with a motorcycle ride to our favorite spot by the river. We had sushi, stopped to grab a coffee, and took a nice walk around the park. As we stood by the water reminiscing about the past three years together he said “all these years and I never asked you to be my girlfriend” so of course I return with “well?!? Ask me now!” He gets down on one knee, and says “I don’t want you to be my girlfriend, I want you to be my wife!” Looking back now I couldn’t believe how smooth he was lol (we drove straight to Nana and papa’s house afterwards so they would be the first to know.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
I couldn’t wait to see his face when I walked down the aisle. He had no idea, what I was wearing or what song I would walk down to. That’s all I cared about, his face when he saw me.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Enjoy it! It’s very stressful, so you have to make it fun! We got through it with lots of wine and lots of laughs!
