We are mindful of everyone’s story because ultimately each is unique, distinct, and beautiful and as their photographers we have the rare privilege of observing and relaying their stories thru photography.
They met at Lake of the Ozarks while vacationing with friends one weekend. Jake and Lauren had an instant connection so much so he jokingly proposed to her at the bar when they first met. Little did they know, they would actually get married.
Lauren envisioned a bright and neutral colored wedding. She chose white flowers with different greenery and minimal decorations. She wanted simple yet elegant look. They did however splurge with a LIVE band. Lauren told us, “We genuinely wanted everyone on the dance floor enjoying this moment with us. And the enthusiasm of the band leader along with the songs chosen, accomplished just that. We all had the wonderful evening.”
Lauren’s favorite part of the day was walking down the aisle with her dad and seeing Jake for the first time. His reaction was priceless. It was a look of pure love, astonishment, and excitement. Jake and Lauren hadn’t seen each other all day and to watch him react to her walking down the aisle was unedited and real.
Lauren said, “It was the perfect moment.”
Q and A: Lauren-Jake Wedding-Foundry Art Centre
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
The only inspiration that I had when planning was that I really wanted all of the colors to be pretty neutral and I kept the decorations to a minimum. Simple yet elegant.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
The church that we had the ceremony at was so beautiful that I kept the ceremony decorations to a minimum. I had a welcome sign and programs that we sat on a table in the front entrance and we made bows that we hung on the end of the pews, but we really let the beauty of the church speak for itself. For the reception, I also left the decorations pretty minimal. We had some signs that I bought for the tables and the flowers were all neutral. Our vendors did a lot of the setup and our parents were a huge help in getting the remaining decorations setup!
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
All of the flowers for the bridal bouquets, boutonnieres, and reception decorations were made with white flowers that were incorporated with different types of greenery. I vaguely described my vision of whites and greens and relied heavily on my florist to pull the vision together. The end result was absolutely amazing and the flowers were one of my favorite things from the day!
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
One of the things that we did to set our wedding apart was to hire a live band and I have to say, it was worth the extra money! Our band was phenomenal and I remember being on the dance floor and looking around to see people of all ages dancing and having fun! From great aunts and uncles to my 3-year-old nephew, they were able to keep everyone having fun and entertained.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
When I searched for my wedding dress, I really wanted something different that I hadn’t seen anyone wear before. I chose an ivory dress that was high neck, low back, and had beautiful embroidering. The groom and groomsmen wore navy blue three-piece suits.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We were both on friends trips to the Lake of the Ozarks when we met. Ironically, Jake got down on one knee and said he was going to marry me one day that first weekend. We never would have guessed that 3 years later we would actually be married! Jake took me on a trip to the beach for my birthday to propose. We had just gotten back from a dolphin sight-seeing excursion when he proposed privately in our hotel room (knowing that I would have hated a public proposal!)
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
The most anticipated moment of the wedding day was having my dad walk me down the aisle and seeing Jake’s reaction. I knew that was going to be a special moment, but I can honestly say I will never forget the feeling I got when I saw him! I was also extremely excited about spending time with all of our family and friends in celebration. We are so lucky to have such amazing people in our lives and being able to spend the day celebrating was so much fun!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t take for granted any part of the Wedding day – it will go by so fast! There is only so much that you can plan to make the day special, and honestly, I couldn’t even tell you if everything was setup how I wanted or not. The day is going to be so special, so focus on the most important things and savor every moment!
