Kelly Lynn & Matt met a few years ago. She fell in love with him and his two sons almost immediately. Her family recently built a beautiful country home 25 miles north of Wilkes Barre, PA. They transformed their property into a rustic/country wedding celebration.
There was so many personal touches with highlights of southern charm, you couldn’t help but get caught up in its beauty. It was a site to be seen. It was such a casual atmosphere, almost like a picnic with fancy dresses. It was the perfect complement to them. We loved telling their story and I hope more couples are inspired by what they did with their own. Thanks
Q and A: Kelly-Matt Wedding-Tunkhannock
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Our wedding was in the woods by the waterfalls and the reception was on my parents’ property. It was relaxing and simple, just like we had hoped for. I would say the “theme” is country and simple. We didn’t have any specific cultural or religious traditions.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
For the ceremony, we created the perfect space out in the woods where the waterfalls are. My dad built an arbor out of logs; which was decorated by Monzie’s Floral Design. We cut logs from a cherry tree to make the aisle way. For seating, we set up hay bales with wooden planks on top. For the reception, we rented a huge tent (the biggest they ever put up) from Endless Mountain Events. We also rented the tables, chairs, and linens from them.
Chippy White Table brought in their Chippy Chicks and decorated everything from the table settings and centerpieces to the special table for our diabetic son. Monzie’s Foral Design provided all the flowers and greenery throughout the wedding. Minooka Bakery made the cake and it looked perfect! The ceremony was all DIY, minus the flowers. We also made hay bale lounges and couches where we covered them in blankets (from Salvation Army – my favorite store) and pillows. My favorite DIY project was the ladder we added shelves to so we could put pictures of our loved ones who were unable to be with us.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
Monzie’s Floral Design did an amazing job! Originally I had ordered (and paid for) wooden flowers from a company, but they went out of business unbeknownst to me. I called Monica, frantic, on the Tuesday before the wedding. She created the most amazing bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages. She even drove out-of-the-way to find wooden flowers and added them into the bouquets!
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Oh yes! We had my two very great friends. Shane Fabiani and Amy Hubbard, play guitar and sing at our wedding. Matt also surprised me with Ashley Hunting. The three of them and their amazing talents made the night so much more memorable! My parents surprised everyone with the Manning’s Ice Cream Truck toward the end of the night. I think the biggest hit of the night was the food thanks to Greenley’s BBQ! They have THE best mac and cheese! Everyone seemed to like our little beer buggy as well; which we got from Flynn’s in Towanda. Equally, our favorite parts of the wedding were hearing each others’ vows and hearing Hunter’s speech. He and Colton are now officially my boys (although I have been calling them that for years now).
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
I HATED dress shopping. Every dress felt so heavy and just didn’t seem right. I found my dress on accident from The Dress. Paige did an amazing job helping me figure it all out.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
I like to joke and say he stalked me, but he was a Jeep guy and I was a Jeep girl, so it was bound to happen sooner or later. We met because he asked me to go Jeeping and of course I said yes! I didn’t realize he was interested until half way down the mountain. We’ve been inseparable ever since. The proposal is kind of funny…
I was in a foul mood and he made me go fishing; which I don’t really enjoy. I was trying to sleep in the boat and complaining of water coming in. Little did I know he was trying to get on one knee. He said my full name – it alarmed me – and I opened my eyes to three grinning goofballs: Matt, Hunter, and Colton. I guess it’s obvious I said yes! Then I cried because I felt bad for being a grump! Haha!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
There were so many anticipated moments, but the most special are hearing/saying our vows, dancing with my dad, dancing with my grandpa, and hearing Hunter’s speech. He is nine and wrote the most amazing speech; which of course made Matt and I cry like babies!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
The best advice I got and actually did was to step back and just look around. Just soak it all up. When people say it flies, they aren’t kidding! Also, if you have a vision or an idea, stick with it even if it costs more work.
