Q and A with the couple: Katie-John Wedding-Camp Pinnacle
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
We wanted a rustic feel to fit our camp venue with natural creams, greens blues and purples. We did not incorporate any cultural or religious traditions into our day other than my sister giving a prayer during the ceremony.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
My mom was AMAZING in making our wedding look beautiful. She worked for months and made many, many trips to Hobby Lobby and many of the decorations, signage and details were all DIY. Otherwise, a TON of our stuff came from Etsy which absolutely amazing as a wedding decor resource!
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
We opted for natural colors with in season flowers and plenty of greenery. Our florist was Flowers by Larry in Hendersonville and he did a great job capturing the simple, rustic feel we were going for.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
We had line dancing as part of our reception since that was one of my favorite things when I went to Camp Pinnacle as a kid. That was definitely one of our favorite parts, as well as our spontaneous canoe arrival to the reception!
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
My sister picked out my wedding dress!! I had a totally different idea in mind that I didn’t end up liking at all, and she plucked the perfect dress from the racks. As soon as I tried it on, I knew it was the one. I got my dress at Gilded Bridal in Raleigh. I wanted something with lace, an off white unique color and something that was very comfortable and lightweight.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We actually met on OkCupid!! My husband proposed at the same place we went on our first date – at Hanging Rock State Park near Winston. We went on a trail run up to the same place we had gone on our first date. It’s beautiful because Hanging Rock is in the background and there is a horse pasture with horses and flowers. We were all sweaty in our running clothes and it was perfect and totally us!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Our vows and exchanging rings. And our first dance!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Make sure to make time for just spending time together without talking about wedding planning. Continue to be silly with each other and talk about the things you are most excited about once you are actually married. Focus on what comes after the wedding because that’s what really matters.
