We met C.A. & Joslyn by doing her sister’s wedding a year before. Ever since then they have all felt like family. When Joslyn contacted us about photography and videography, I was extremely happy to hear from her! Not only do we feel so honored to have done 2 out of the 3 weddings but she is totally the sweetest as well as C.A.
They had their wedding on Cinco De Mayo and all the bridesmaids’ earrings were different colors that matched the groomsmen bow ties! Details were definitely not missed on this wedding day! Their love was so apparent throughout the day. That even if there was just a tin building and no decorations it would have still been beautiful because of their love for each other! When we booked this wedding we knew we would have so much fun but we didn’t know that we would walk away best friends at the end of everything!
Q and A: Joslyn-C.A. Wedding-Geronimo Oaks
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
The inspiration for our day was Cinco de Mayo with our rustic twist. We love color, antiques, and both grew up in the agriculture industry so every detail showed our personality. We chose to put most of the colors into the flowers and most other decorations were either cow hides, tin/silver, or wood. During our ceremony, we had a hide branding ceremony to represent unity. We created our own brand by merging both our families cattle brands to represent the molding of two families to one.
We also had a Grand March dance which is very popular in South Texas. Each part of the dance represents different stages of your life throughout your marriage, i.e. first fight, first make up, families coming together. We also had “Dajcie Dajcie” Give Give: This is an old polish tradition of collecting money from the guests by banging on pots and pans. Guests are given cookies and shots of wine as well. This money was used to help defray the cost of starting a family.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
Most of our wedding decorations were very rustic. We utilized cow hides in numerous places, tin/silver vases and bright flowers as centerpieces, antique wooden storage boxes, wine barrels, and these unique wine barrel ring decorations hanging from the ceiling. We also found these antique doors that we set on wine barrels for the entrance tables for pictures and presents.
On one of our first dates we visited an antique show where I found an old turquoise truck door. I had my sister personalize it for us with beautiful painted flowers and “Jones est. 2018”. We loved having a part of one of our first dates with us at the wedding. The ceremony site was decorated with an arbor that had bright flowers draping it. We also incorporated wine barrels and rustic candelabras at the ceremony site.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
Our flowers brought all of our color to our wedding! We utilized a number of bright and bold flowers in all of our table centerpieces, bouquets, boutonnieres, and in a number of other decorations. We also used ferns to add green to our ceremony backdrop and reception entrance. My favorite flowers (other than my bouquet of course) were hanging from our unique wine barrel ring spheres that were specifically made for our wedding from a family friend.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
We absolutely love ice cream so in addition to our wedding cakes we had an ice cream bar! We had a number of toppings and had a soft serve machine so our guests could personalize their dessert as they would like. We also personalized the ceremony by having a hide branding ceremony to represent unity. We created our own brand by merging both our families’ cattle brands to represent the molding of two families to one. Our bartenders provided 5 different flavors of margaritas for our guests that were delicious! It made a fun twist to having our wedding on Cinco de Mayo. We gifted each of his groomsman a different colored bow tie that matched the earrings of their bridesmaid, which added more of the Cinco de Mayo feel to the wedding.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
I knew when looking for a wedding dress I only wanted to go to Beatitude Bridal Boutique. They have all kinds of beautiful dresses at a great price point. I found the perfect dress from Eddy K. It is an A Line dress that has an illusion neckline with beautiful floral beading that delicately led to the waistline into multiple layers of tulle. I chose cowboy boots to match our rustic look and to be comfortable to dance all night. I kept the jewelry simple and actually used a pair of earrings that I was given as a gift when I was Maid of Honor in one of my bridesmaid’s wedding. I had a beautiful sparkly hairpiece that had a floral design similar to my dress.
C.A. loves to dress up so it was imperative to find a suit that matched his personality. We found the perfect suit at Joseph A Bank. It is a very beautiful dark navy fitted suit and he wore a crisp white shirt with the suit. He had a coral bow tie with a matching pocket square to suit his personality. He also wore a pair of chocolate crocodile skin Lucchese boots. On our wedding day I gifted him personalized stainless steel collar stays that had “C.A. and Joslyn May 5, 2018” and “You will have my heart Always and Forever” en-scripted on them.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We actually met in high school at Texas A&M University Livestock Judging Camp. We had been friends for many years until my best friend decided to play matchmaker at a Texas A&M football game. She is married to C.A.’s best friend and helped our paths cross that weekend. Fast forward to that summer where we had planned a trip to Destin, Florida with our best friends. My best friend let me know that she had booked a photographer to take photos of them on the beach for their Christmas cards.
So we all were dressed up and headed to a beautiful spot on the beach. The photographer had taken a few photos of our friends and asked if we would like a few photos taken of ourselves. She took a few photos and the next thing I knew C.A. was on one knee and proposed! Little did I know the whole trip was planned as a proposal and it was so special to be able to have photos of the event.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
There were so many special moments of the day from seeing each other for the first time down the aisle to my sisters rapping their Maid of Honor toast but there is one moment that really stands out. The most special moment of our wedding day was our last song. The day goes by so quickly and you don’t get to have much time together as a couple with the many events that happen throughout the day. We had requested to have a last song with just us two while our guests prepared for our exit. It was nice to wind down a little bit and talk about how special the day was while dancing to a song that was very special to us. We danced to “Riding Shotgun” played by Sean McConnell.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
My best piece of advice would be that this is your day, not anyone else’s! It is most important that you have the details that you want at your wedding. Also, the day goes by so quickly so enjoy every moment and don’t let the things that will go wrong affect your mood. At the end of the day you will be married to the love of your life and that is all that matters!
