Jackie and Jenny have the sweetest relationship, they met through coaching softball and the rest is history. They even had a coin flip at the ceremony to see who would walk down the aisle first. They are best friends but so much more than that.
Their wedding was super delicate and feminine with lots of glitter and sparkle. No detail was left un-attended. They even had an engraved coin for the coin toss. Their ceremony was just a huge celebration of their love and half way through their first dance the DJ cut to Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl and they just had a great time dancing to it. It was a joy to watch the excitement and happiness on their big day. Each girl kept their dress secret until their first look, which was definitely emotion filled and romantic!
Q and A: Jennifer-Jacqueline Wedding-Aerie Ballroom
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
The inspiration for our wedding day was girly and lots of sparkle! We wanted to make sure that we thought of every detail and made our venue our own. Our colors were soft pink, gray, and white. Jackie and I wanted our guests to be entertained and to transform the space into something beautiful and different. Making sure that everything was done with tiny details in mind and that we created a romantic day full of love with family and friends.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
Pinterest… Wedding shows… Wedding magazine… David Tutera Weddings… Everything wedding! Jackie and I were engaged for a year and a half! And I (Jenny) love crafts and decorating. So you can only imagine that I consumed everything wedding and pulling ideas from everywhere I could.
We wanted the tallest vases, the biggest sparkle trees, everything that would cost an arm and a leg. Luckily my sister is very crafty as well and helped Jackie and I DIY every decoration in our wedding. We created 7 foot tall trees from branches I found at Ikea and wooden handmade 4 foot vases Jackie’s dad created for us to help transform our venue. We then added sparkle everywhere we could with tall glass vases we made with fake flowers we found from every Michael’s and Hobby Lobby in WA. We hunted down every decoration and spent many fun nights crafting and going over wedding plans.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
Our bouquets complemented our wedding colors perfectly, and added the romantic girly touch we needed to complete our bridal and bridesmaids look. Jackie’s cousin Lydia and her mom made our beautiful bouquets and knew exactly our vision. We were very excited to get peonies as they are super hard to get that time of year. We also had lots of baby breath everywhere. We added sprigs of baby breath to the candles on the wedding aisle.
I (Jenny) had a cascading bouquet and Jackie a round bouquet. Our bouquets complemented each other so well showing off both of our styles but also came together perfectly. To help our budget we actually used fake flowers for our centerpieces along with tall sticks and lots of tulle. Although after all the fake flowers I bought it may not have been cheaper! We used sticks and tall vases to make our centerpieces very tall to add to the elegance we wanted in our wedding.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Our wedding had a lot of personal touches and that was our goal all along to make sure that the wedding had details that reminded our friends and family of Jackie and I. We both love popcorn and cheese! So we included a popcorn bar in our wedding reception that was a hit, as well as cheese plates for our appetizer that our guests enjoyed.
Our cupcakes were also a very personal touch that had many different details and designs Jackie and I discussed We had 200 cupcakes as well as a cutting cake with glitter and different pinks and grays, as well as 3 different flavors we loved. Some cupcakes also had butterflies which have always been my favorite thing. (Jenny) We also included baseball aspects into our wedding day, as that is how Jackie and I met, and is something we both adore. Our wedding ceremony included a coin flip with a personalized coin as well as being married over home plate.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Jenny – I wanted the pouffiest dress I could find and to look just like cinderella! This is the day I have dreamed of and I can’t go small. I tried on lots of ball gowns but none seemed to hit the spot. Until I tried on the mermaid gown my mom, dad, and sister picked out. I thought a mermaid style? You guys are crazy!
But then I tried it on… The top was full of soft white sparkles and intricate lacey details plus the bottom was complete poof! I fell in love instantly and knew it was the ONE! I then needed a tiara of course, and decided on a sparkle headband that seemed to fit the look perfectly. My sister and dad were secretly looking at their phones the whole time to make sure that Jackie’s dress and mine would complement each other. Turns out they were a perfect match on the wedding day!
Jackie – When my sister tried on her wedding dress a certain dress caught my eye. It was a mermaid style dress. When I went with all my bridesmaids and sister to look at dresses I knew that a mermaid style would be just what I wanted! I tried on a bunch at one store and was not too impressed, but the second store seemed to have more of my style.
After a couple, I tried on a shimmery mermaid dress that had everyone gasping. I loved this dress and how it was just a little different from any I had seen and I knew this was the one. I then decided to add some more glam to my dress with a sparkle pendant necklace and earrings my mom had given me. I knew that Jenny would love this dress on me and all of its sparkles.
Jackie & I both ended up buying our dresses from I DO Bridal in Seattle and the girls there were AMAZING and very excited and accepting of a same-sex wedding, which was hard to find. We had not planned to buy our dresses from the same store, we also did not see each other’s dress till the wedding day.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
Jackie and I met through coaching and our matchmaker Andy, who actually performed the coin flip at our ceremony. One night Andy, my old superintendent, called me up randomly to help coach a softball team his daughter was on. I ended up becoming the assistant coach to this team that Jackie and her dad coached. We all three made the perfect team and loved coaching these amazing kids. After many practices and games Jackie and I became best friends and soon after that we realized our friendship was much more.
We ended up coaching together for 5 years and loved every moment! Jackie actually proposed to me on a family trip to Hawaii! She surprised me after an amazing beach side dinner on Christmas Eve. She gave me a gift on the beach with a ring inside! I melted and cried a ton, and then called my family at home to tell them all about it. Little did Jackie know I had been waiting for this moment and also had a ring to give her. The next morning, Christmas morning, I walked her out onto the beach to give her the ring I had picked out for her. She was ecstatic and so surprised.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
The most anticipated moment was seeing each other for the first time! I remember melting when I saw Jackie and being so happy to finally see her on that busy wedding day. She looked amazing and it was the best feeling to get to hold my soon to be wife’s hand and know we were doing this crazy wedding day together! And making a commitment to be each other’s best friend for life.
The most special moment of our day was the ceremony. Having our dad’s do a coin flip together and becoming one family was the best feeling. Having all of our family and friends there as well as our best friend marry us was an overwhelming moment of love and happiness and an amazing experience.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

While age may be just a number, 35 is a scary number for me. But I have decided this is what 35 means to me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Loving myself more. Seeking out what fills my heart. Not being afraid of being in my own skin. Loving fearlessly. Following my dreams. Taking risks. Being honest with myself. Allowing myself grace. Learning from mistakes. Growing from failure. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These are all beautiful sentiments in theory and I will test myself in practice, because if we aren’t learning and growing, what exactly are we doing?
