The Jersey Shore has a huge part in Jenna and Stephen’s relationship. Stephen proposed as the sun rose over the beach in Stone Harbor, NJ and since Jenna had always dreamed of getting married on the beach, Windows on the Water, in Sea Bright, New Jersey was the perfect choice for their wedding.

The day started out in the gorgeous historic Victorian mansion, The Strandvue, in Ocean Grove. The mansion was a perfect place for the bridal party as they got ready and all that gorgeous light pouring in the windows made for some beautiful photos! So many precious moments were shared with her mom, first look with Dad, all the way through to the end of the day, that I had to work hard to keep from crying myself! And this was NOT easy!

With every couple I work with, I ask them to write down their love story for me. It helps me to get to know them both better and I get to hear what’s important and means the most to them. I loved the perspective Stephen wrote and sums up this couple and their beautiful hearts…

“With God before me and Jenna beside me, I have everything. Little did I know that when I met Jenna, that I would meet the love of my life and my future bride. Our relationship up to this point has been like a book that I don’t ever want to put down, and I’m perfectly okay with taking my time to read it till the end.” This couple is JUST PRECIOUS and I was both honored and blessed to be a part of their special day!

Q & A with the couple: Jenna-Stephen Wedding

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
We wanted two things for our wedding:
1. To honor the Lord through marriage and show a picture of Isaiah 62:5. “…and [as] the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, [so] shall thy God rejoice over thee. “
2. To demonstrate to our friends and family how much we appreciate having them in our lives. We wanted it to be a day that makes people smile when they think about it.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
The venue we chose was beautiful in a very elegant, simple way. Because of this, I didn’t feel the need to decorate too much. It was extremely open and airy and sunlight came in from all sides of the room, making everything stunning.  I did make the centerpieces, table cards, and a few other small decorations.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
I was walking through NYC one day on the way to a meeting and happened to pass a small stand selling dried flowers on the side of the road. I got the card of the woman who made the arrangements. The woman lived on a small farm in upstate NY, and was open to designing the flowers for our wedding. She ended up making my bouquet, the bouquets for my bridesmaids and the flower girls, the grandmother’s corsage and my husband’s boutonniere. It was a bit of a gamble since I didn’t know exactly what they would look like until I picked them up a few weeks before the wedding, but it was so worth it to me since it was a cheaper option. I was extremely happy with the final product!
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Our two main priorities were having amazing food and great music. To do this, we put the majority of our budget into selecting a venue with great food and hiring a live band. While this limited the amount we spent on other areas, we were both very happy that we’d prioritized these two things over anything else.
One other personalized aspect of our wedding is that Stephen’s brother, sister-in-law and family friend performed our first dance song. It was so special to have them involved in that moment.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
I wanted a very simple dress that I would be comfortable in. I selected a skirt and shirt from BHLDN which I accompanied with a thin, beaded belt and a mid-length veil. My engagement ring is actually not a diamond – it is a tanzanite stone. To highlight my ring, I also wore a tanzanite necklace and tanzanite earrings (which I borrowed from my soon to be sister-in-law). I wore flats that were a very pale peach color with a netted beading. I had my makeup professionally done and went with natural tones. I also had my hair done in a high bun.
My husband wore a navy suit from Banana Republic with a navy tie, a light brown leather belt and dress shoes.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met at a Bible study at a mutual friend’s house and started dating shortly after. Stephen proposed at sunrise on the beach in Avalon, NJ during my family’s annual beach vacation. It was absolutely perfect and will be a moment we both cherish for the rest of our lives.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Right after the wedding ceremony, Stephen and I were taken up to the bridal suit for a few moments before being introduced at the cocktail hour. The suit looked right out onto the ocean and the sun was just starting to set. It was giving the whole world that perfect, golden glow. I’ll never forget sitting by the window with my husband for the first time and looking down at all of our family and friends in one place smiling and laughing and enjoying themselves. I will cherish that moment for the rest of my life.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Make sure you know what is important to the two of you. Pick two or three things you want to make sure are exceptional, and then compromise on everything else. All that really matters is that you end the day married to the person you love.
Your wedding day is not just about the two of you – it’s also an extremely important and special time for both families. Try your best to make sure your family and his family feels loved and prioritized throughout the planning process. I know this is not always possible, but you won’t regret it when it’s all said and done.
