Jenna and Dan’s wedding day was nothing short of a photographers dream. I loved that the couple picked their wedding venue, because it didn’t feel like a wedding venue. 514 Studios has a raw, industrial feel and is a blank canvas. The couple hired A Vintage Touch and the venue was transformed right before your eyes.
To start off the day the couple did a first look at 514 Studios in their upper level natural light studio, so pretty. The dark color pallet for the day of navy and reds blended so beautiful. During their ceremony these two wrote their own vows to each other, which is always a favorite moment of mine. Dinner was served food truck style from Gastrotruck and Angel Food Bakery brought lots and lots of yummy choices for desserts! As a final send off the couple lit sparklers and the rest was history!
Q and A: Jenna-Dan Wedding-514 Studios-Neu Neu
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
After buying an art deco style wedding dress we decided to theme our whole wedding around it! We called it a “speakeasy theme”.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
We used A Vintage Touch and had their “Jen Package”, which is a full-design package that included the creation of a custom-built piece. They built us an amazing hexagon altar. Our ceremony and reception were in the same location.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
Yes! We had flowers on our hexagon altar/backdrop, bouquets, and as centerpieces. They added a perfect touch.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Our decorator really personalized our whole wedding. There were quotes throughout the wedding and reception that I had personally picked out. We had a food truck, cigar bar, photo booth, DJ, and a donut/cookie/bar dessert bar. One of my favorite parts was the key seating chart.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
I fell in love with a full beaded art deco Theia gown and it was all over :). My husband had a custom suit made.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal. Jenna-Dan Wedding-514 Studios-Neu Neu
How We Met –
Match.com….. I know….. how unromantic :). The funny thing is…. when you’re living in Texas and searching for a >5ft 10in, brown-haired, fit, educated, funny, Minnesota man and your 100% match messages you hours after you save him as a favorite… it’s kinda perfect.
The proposal in my husbands words,
“I nervously had the ring in hand for nearly two weeks leading up to July 20th. There were several days in that period that I wanted to whip that ring out and ask her already. Finding the right moment is difficult. Going on a weekend vacation, while out on the town, walking around the lake, relaxing on our porch with the beloved weiner-dogs…all moments that could’ve been THE moment. What kept the ring in my pocket until July 20th, I honestly don’t know. I should’ve asked her the day I had the ring in hand.
Jenna and I play in a co-ed softball league on Thursdays in Minneapolis. On this particular Thursday, by no doing of my own, we had several teammates absent. And to fill their spots we added to the lineup Jenna’s sister, Kacie, Jenna’s father, Scott, and Scott’s then fiancé now wife, Katy. In addition, Jenna’s grandmother, Sharon, joined the peanut gallery to watch the ball game. I couldn’t have planned, or not planned, that audience any better.
It got late in the game. Jenna was playing 3rd base, Scott at shortstop, Kacie and 2nd base and myself backing up Jenna in left field. The largest guy in that park, maybe Minneapolis, stepped up to the plate and ripped the ball hard, VERY HARD, down the 3rd base line and KNOCK! If you know Jenna to any amount then you know she’s a tough girl. She held her ground at 3rd base and took a one-hop, bad-hop, from a bright yellow “soft” ball right to the cheek bone just missing her eye.
Jenna went to her knees and I sprinted in from left field. When I made it to Jenna, she was holding her right hand over her already swelling, stich-laced, bright red cheek bone. Jenna calmly asked for ice as I was kneeling in front of her. Jenna’s father, grandmother and sister all made it to her side. As they all surrounded her and I, I thought to myself ‘MOMENT!!’ I shakenly reached into my right-side pocket and dug out our engagement ring and asked Jenna to marry me.
Looking back on that moment, I can confidently say that I was in more shock than a girl who just took a softball to the face. I had several things I wanted to say to her when the time came, but they all escaped me as I rushed to not let another moment fly by. The only words I could make out were, “While I have you here – Jenna, will you marry me?”
If I could go back and have a second shot at it, unsurprised at what was about to happen, knowing that she was going to take a ball to the face and I’d find us sitting there together surrounded by family then I would add this…Jenna Marie Freitag, I love you with all my heart. You are a smart, resilient, and beautiful woman. You excite me with your presence and humor me with your goofiness. I’m lucky every single day to have you by my side, dreaming of our future together, complaining about the Winter and laughing at the wiener dogs. I’m a patient man but I’m done waiting for the day where I may call you my fiancé, and my wife.….and while I have you here – Jenna, will you marry me?”
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Seeing each other was easily the most anticipated AND special moment.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Figure out what is important to do you and your fiancé…. and only do that :). Don’t worry about the little things :).

My parents (mom) were always good about taking photos of us girls. They were good about taking photos of themselves too. It’s pretty cool that we have photos of them on there honeymoon. It’s cool that there are classic and embarrassing photos of my grandparents at all ages. I guess what I’m getting at is never stop taking photos of yourself. Some people think posing photos of yourself is dumb, but with this little time capsule we’re creating on the internet, nobody is going to care about your pineapple photo 🤷♀️. Everyone wants to see you! I challenge everyone reading this to post a photo of their self tonight!
