Heather and Zac said ‘I do’ a the Columbus Convention & Trade Center in downtown Columbus Georgia on February 17th. Their wedding was a gorgeous mix of subtle old Hollywood glamour in a modern, industrial setting with dark emerald greens and beautiful his and hers rose gold wedding rings.
These two opted for a private first look between bride and groom before the guests began to arrive and was such a special moment. Both agreed that after they had the chance to see one another a lot of the anxiety of the day melted away. Their incredible wedding images speak more than I could ever write, please enjoy them!
Q and A: Heather-Zac Wedding-Columbus Trade Center
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Our inspiration behind some of our wedding decor/theme was our rose gold wedding rings. Our colors were dark forest green, blush pink, burgundy, ivory, and rose gold. The other inspiration was our industrial venue, so we had wood and metal accents everywhere we could. We honored our faith by having our first act as man and wife be the partaking of communion.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
For the ceremony, I had faux moss runners lining the aisle along with rose gold lanterns, greenery, and white carnations. At the end of the aisle I had a wooden arbor decorated with ivory sheers and a garland of eucalyptus. We also had a friend make a “welcome” and “unplugged” sign for us. For the reception, I had a mixture of black and rose gold lanterns on the tables. I also added blush pink roses, burgundy carnations, babys breath, ferns, and other greenery to the centerpieces. Another friend of ours painted a scripture verse on a sheet that was the background of our photo booth/sitting area. I made a vintage suitcase our cards and gifts holder. I chalkboard painted a globe as our guest book because our guests “mean the world to us”. We also had a memorial table set up in remembrance of our grandparents that have passed.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
I told my florist what my wedding colors were and she helped pick out coordinating flowers for my bouquet. I made my bridesmaids bouquets out of leatherleaf ferns, white carnations, and babys breath. I also made the centerpieces myself (Q2). I can not imagine my wedding without flowers, it definitely suited the atmosphere.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
My father and I did a montage of dances which surprised everyone, it was great! My husband and I also did a choreographed dance to our song, my friend is a ballroom dancer so she taught us. My favorite part was dancing with everyone and seeing them having a great time!
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
My dress was everything I imagined! My dress was a long-sleeved, lace fit and flare, with an open back. When I imagined my wedding day, this is exactly the dress I pictured! For the ceremony, I wore my moms pillbox hat veil. My husband wore a black suit, with a white dress shirt, and a floral tie to match my bouquet. We both wanted him to wear a black suit but we loved how the floral tie added something extra!
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met in 2010 when my family and I moved to South Florida. His family became our first friends. We ended up having several classes together in high school but didn’t end up dating until a year after we graduated high school! The proposal happened on July 22, 2017. His family came into town for my sister’s “surprise” birthday party but it actually ended up being a surprise for me! We went to a park to take photos with some friends. All of the sudden, I heard music playing, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast actually. I turned to him and he was all smiley so I knew something was happening! He escorted me to all of these photos of us he had hung up between the trees. Then I saw the “Enchanted Rose” that had the ring in it! He got down on one knee, and everything was perfect!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Our first look! As soon as we saw each other, our nerves instantly went away! It was great, I highly recommend every bride and groom having a first look. I loved the look on his face, AND he was emotional as I walked down the aisle AS WELL!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Use a wedding planning timeline! That way you won’t get so overwhelmed. It’s all perfectly planned out, do a little every week. Never go to sleep angry, we aways forgive and forget easier when we want to go to sleep! Then we wake up in our right minds to discuss everything. Always say “I love you” before hanging up the phone and leaving to go anywhere, even if its down the street!

FRIDAY INTRODUCTION TIME! I realize a lot of my followers have no idea who *I* am besides the images I post from weddings. So here’s five random things about me: 1. I’ve been married to @johnmottz for coming up on six years now, we met in Italy on a whirlwind trip and have been together since! It’s pretty romantic if you think about it 💃🏼 2. I’m a mom- all about that mom life and he’s priority numero uno. It’s chaotic and wild but I wouldn’t change a thing 3. I’m an outgoing introvert so spending some quality time by myself is super important. Social situations are really draining to me 4. I’ve lived in five states over the last six years, it’s crazy but I’ve actually gotten used to all the travel 5. Knitting and crochet, I do both! My grandmother taught me when I was pregnant with my son, she told me busy hands make for a quiet mind and was spot on. It was the best coping mechanism for my anxiety and I still find it very relaxing #fridayintroductions
