Our mission: We are mindful of everyone’s story because ultimately each is unique, distinct, and beautiful and as their photographers we have the rare privilege of observing and relaying their stories through photography.
Felicia and Brian were just so excited to marry. Felicia selected an “aviation” theme because Brian is a pilot.
Q and A: Felicia-Brian Wedding-Innsbrook Resort
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
She is a “nerd” and he is a pilot, and they both LOVE to travel! We found our neutral ground by encouraging our guests to go on an adventure…to a fantasy destination. We touched on storybook/Disney/adventure as well as travel, focused on keeping details simple. We didn’t let a Spring wedding keep us from using the fall colors Felicia loves – navy and deep red.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
Almost all of our decor was DIY due to my “new” amazing sister-in-law. She created our invitations, created matching framed signs to bring in our theme, and all of the centerpieces (spray-painted Dollar Store books & vases). Our ceremony decor was put together by a talented family friend, using silk Wisteria Ivy Vine and ferns. All our floral decor coming from Amazon or Hobby Lobby.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
We used deep red, blush, eucalyptus, blueberries, and greenery in our florals. Since the MOH wore a different color dress, her eucalyptus branches matched the other bridesmaids and vice versa. The color theme (and similar florals) were used on the invitations, framed signs, cake stand decor, and centerpieces.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
The overall theme was personal to us both – Disney, Harry Potter, and other book/show reference, as well as our love of travel, and his love of flying. Even our photobooth included superhero and Disney castle backgrounds. The ceremony was very special as it was performed by the friend that introduced us. He made it very personal and very humorous. I can’t wait to see the video!
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
After several years of waiting for him to propose, I had created a Pinterest board for the various themes of “perfect days” we were bound to have. Brian is not a fan of colored dresses and I knew I wanted my dress to be different. I came across the Decklyn gown from Hayley Paige. I knew it was the one the moment I pinned it. When he finally proposed, the first thing I did was find a boutique near me that had the gown…and promptly purchased it.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met on NYE 2011…not at a party, but the morning after breakfast with the apartment next door (from our friends). He jokingly said he needed a traveling companion and I said I was down if he could handle only 3 weeks of vacation. For my mother’s 50th birthday, I took her to Scotland and Ireland for a girls’ trip with my sister and best friend (Maid of Honor). Brian met us in Ireland, and unbeknownst to me, had gotten everyone’s permission to crash the trip with a proposal on the Cliffs of Moher. There was a lot of grumbling on my part on the four-hour drive there from Dublin, but boy was I surprised!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
The First Look. I had originally wanted to elope because such an important declaration of commitment felt so private and personal to me – and let me tell you, I’m not a private person, I tell everyone everything. Having the chance to see each other for the first time without having to share that with guests, to express freely with no (ok, limited) observers was really important to me.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Hire a good wedding coordinator! Not the venue coordinator, but an actual coordinator! A friend of mine performed the role – including running my rehearsal, helping set up and clean up of my “at-home” rehearsal dinner, providing breakfast morning of, assisting with reception and ceremony set-up, handling all vendor questions and coordinating the day of, and making sure I had everything I forgot – which was a lot, and collecting my things from the venue the next morning. This made the day/weekend so stress-free and I solely attribute my enjoyment of the weekend to her and the family/friends who chipped in.
