From the Bride: Danielle-Eppie Wedding-Cathedral
My husband proposed to me in September of 2017 while we were at Disneyland Paris. We regularly visit the theme park in Anaheim, and Eppie wanted the opportunity to honor our earliest memories of our dates while celebrating my passion for French culture, since I am a French teacher of Creole descent.
The planning process:
The bride and groom, along with the mother and sister of the bride (who is also my MOH), planned their wedding over 10 months, constantly attending bridal fairs together and regularly reviewing Brides.com, TheKnot.com, Brides magazine, and California Wedding Day.
I have felt fascinated with the Disney Fairytale Bridal line by Alfred Angelo ever since its launch more than 10 years ago. Every year, I would google their website for what the newest interpretation of each Disney princess would wear to her modern-day wedding. I just *knew* that one day I would be able to try one on! However, 2 months before Eppie proposed, this company went out of business and I felt heartbroken! When Eppie proposed, I had made my peace with it and was looking forward to trying on new styles with my Mom and sister’s guidance.
In October 2017, we received a tip on social media that floor models of the Disney FairyTale dresses from all over the region were being liquidated at a store 90 miles from us. We rushed to that boutique and the very last Princess Tiana inspired gown fit me like a glove! My sister even managed to rummage through the veils to find the cathedral length veil that was meant to accompany this dress. To think that this was even before we had booked our venue (a cathedral!) just feels so amazing. It truly feels like my own modern fairytale that all of these details worked out this way!
Each bridesmaid held a bouquet of one dozen natural two toned Latin Lady roses in order to match the burgundy and pink color scheme. The flower girl held a small matching bouquet of 6 Latin Lady roses.
The bride’s bouquet was a cascade of white orchids, hydrangeas, and roses.
The groom, groomsmen, fathers, and ring bearer each had a boutonniere of a single two-toned Latin Lady rose.
Each of the mothers had corsages to match the men.
The 6 aisle bouquets heavily featured natural burgundy flowers such as Gerber daisies, lilies, roses, and pink hydrangeas. These pieces were also used to accent the cake table, sweetheart table, and DJ stand at the reception.
At the reception, 8 round floral centerpieces containing 2 dozen Latin Lady roses and white hydrangeas adorned each table.
Our Wedding Day:
We felt like royalty to have the honor of celebrating at the cathedral in Los Angeles. It is such a breathtaking and historic location, right in the heart of Downtown L.A. It felt overwhelming to celebrate in its grand architecture, and yet we also felt represented through the modern culture in all of the art and exhibits displayed there.
Eppie is a Native American and right after our wedding ceremony, we had a smudging of sage. Since my heritage is New Orleans Creole, one of our favors for our guests was a 2nd line handkerchief to be used during our Grand Exit : a New Orleans Second Line parade!
Since Eppie and I love to travel together, we themed each table after one of the cities we’ve visited together, decorating it with our selfies in that place! Since Eppie proposed in Paris, our parting gift for guests was a mini bottle of sparkling wine with a label that we designed using our engagement photos in Paris. Guests also felt delighted by our table snacks (Eppie’s idea 😊 ) of M&M’s that were personalized with our engagement photo!
The bridesmaids, bride, groom, and mother of the bride felt the thrill and honor of applying their loving personal touch to as many projects as they could! The bride designed ceremony programs what could also be used as elegant fans. The bridesmaids and close friends gathered for a fun evening to connect, cut and assemble.
Advice for couples:
Overall, the bride feels most grateful to have chosen bridesmaids who were capable of prioritizing planning and supporting the bride above all else. If a close friend or family member lives out-of-state or far away, of course they can be valuable members of the wedding party, but it is important to have a well-rounded group of people who are local and have the time and capacity to assist. Especially on the wedding day, the bride relied on the wedding party for emotional support and the division of tasks like supervising the guestbook, ensuring table design was as envisioned, etc.
Another piece of advice is that, if you are looking to cut costs, the videographer and photographer must NOT be among your budget items! They are NOT luxuries, they are necessities. In the end, video and photographic art will be the most lasting and valuable ways to remember the fastest and most significant day of your life. Plus, a truly skilled photographer will make budget items (ie: handmade centerpieces, silk flowers, antique clothes, etc) feel glamorous and professional and will reflect your intentions the best!
