How did they propose?
We have traveled all over together to the most romantic locations – the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, a sailing trip on the Mediterranean from Barcelona, the French coast and countryside, the dreamy beaches of Kauai, the snow-capped slopes of Whistler, Canada – and many more. We moved across the country together, bought a house together – yet year after year, no proposal.
In the end, Craig chose the perfect proposal for us. Nothing over-the-top or expected. No big momentous occasion. We were at home one Sunday night near Christmas (Christy’s VERY FAVORITE holiday). Christy had just finished grocery shopping and was unloading groceries when Craig asked for some help with the Christmas tree – a level down from our kitchen. When Christy walked down the stairs, Craig was standing there, candles lit in front of our Christmas tree in our first home purchased together. He had framed our first photo ever taken together, a photo from our first anniversary, and had hand-drawn a picture of Christy, Craig, our dog Lola, a house, and two children. He got down on one knee, ring in hand, and explained that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Christy – to build a home and a family together.
Craig then popped the question. Christy, of course, said ABSOLUTELY!
What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?
We’re talkers, so we’re providing three:
Christy learned on the wedding day that there IS a thing a too much glitter. If you’re planning using something like glitter poppers for your “getting ready” photos or confetti canons for the ceremony or reception, LESS IS MORE. Our bridesmaids had to use tweezers to pull glitter from Christy’s hair all night!
If you’re doing any of the planning or DIY-ing items for the wedding, set a time and date a few days before the wedding to finish everything. Whatever is done by that point is what’s getting done. Whatever is not doesn’t NEED to be done. Allow yourself several days to really step back and enjoy your guests, each other, etc. instead of rushing around stressed for the final days before your wedding.
Brides – set a point person to answer ALL questions on your wedding day – from vendors, the bridal party, etc. Christy didn’t have many text or phone call questions while getting ready, but when everyone got together, she got pretty overwhelmed by the number of questions being asked of her throughout the day. Tell a groomsman, bridesmaid, other close friend, etc. how you want the day to run, then let them answer all incoming questions so you can just sit back and enjoy the day without having to give direction or make decisions.
