Brittany and Derek were able to get ready on site, using a few of the many suites that Mount Airy Mansion has to offer. The girls prepared upstairs, while the guys prepped downstairs. Brittany and her bridesmaids sported matching robes, and she gifted them with self-made “Beauty and the Beast” detailed hangers. Derek and the groomsmen selected classic black tuxes for the affair.
They say rain on your wedding day is good luck. Brittany and Derek received a lot of luck on their wedding day! The ceremony took place inside an intimate room with lots of window light. The lush greenery of the mansion’s campus showed through, creating a pretty backdrop for their main event. Derek was all smiles as his bride approached him, and Brittany’s eyes glimmered with happy tears.
As mentioned before, the theme of the day had many Beauty and the Beast elements. Brittany worked tediously on her details, creating a DIY wedding dream. She collected vintage pieces, assembled her own centerpieces, and infused her love for Disney throughout the decor. The bridal gown was even part of the Alfred Angelo Disney collection!
FIVE FUN FACTS
Brittany and Derek got engaged at Disney World in front of Cinderella’s castle. Brittany was even dressed as Cinderella. <3
These two met online, “in true millennial fashion.”
Derek gave Brittany a Disney themed appreciation award as her pre-wedding gift, which listed all the wonderful things he values her for as well as recent accomplishments.
Despite the fact that it rained non-stop through their entire wedding day, the two dipped out of their reception with me for photos in the rain. Brittany was wearing heels and was surely going to sink. I gave her my own flats and shot their portraits barefoot! We had so much fun, laughed so hard, and it was wonderful to see a couple embrace the weather with all smiles (and a few smooches!).
Q and A: Brittany-Derek Wedding-Mount Airy Mansion
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Our wedding was Beauty and the Beast themed, as this was my favorite movie growing up and I am a Disney fanatic! My husband and I got engaged at Walt Disney World. Disney holds such a special place in my heart, which is why we chose to incorporate it into our wedding day. We chose a gold and blush palette to bring our Beauty and the Beast wedding to life.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
We were on a tight budget, so we got creative and most of our décor ended up being DIY.
Ceremony – Our ceremony was held inside at the Mount Airy Mansion since it was a rainy day. Gold chairs lined the ceremony space, accompanied by rustic chalk board signs. A white arbor was set up at the end of the aisle, which was draped with faux white flowers. The ceremony space was filled with twinkling lights and guests enjoyed the scenic backdrop of the lush greenery that surrounded the mansion.
Reception – The reception featured lots of special Beauty and the Beast, and Disney touches. Tables were lined with pink table linens and center pieces consisted of gold antique tea pots, candelabras, clocks, spray painted gold books and the iconic glass dome with the enchanted rose that is featured in the Disney film. All of the table décor that was featured was second-hand or found in thrift stores. Our cake was pink and white and topped with a Mickey and Minnie wedding cake topper that we picked up at a local thrift store. Again, we got really thrifty!
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
We opted for faux light pink roses and white rose buds for both our ceremony, reception space and for our bouquets and boutonnieres. The roses played an important role in conveying the Beauty and the Beast theme, as this flower was an important element in this classic fairy tale.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
One of my favorite and most unique elements at my wedding was that my youngest brother and his friend played steel drums at the ceremony and cocktail hour. I walked down to the aisle to “Beauty and the Beast” played on the steel drum. It was beautiful and a memory that I will always cherish.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
We both went for a very classic look. The guys wore black tuxes. I opted to wear a white ball gown, “Snow White 256” from Alfred Angelo’s Disney Fairytale Wedding collection. I purchased the dress discounted for $800. I loved my dress and felt that it was perfect for our Disney themed wedding! Our bridesmaids wore light pink strapless, floor length dresses, with crystal belts.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
Derek and I met online in true millennial fashion. Derek proposed to me in front of Cinderella’s castle at Walt Disney World. It was a proposal fit for a princess and ironically enough, I was dressed up as Cinderella!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Walking down the aisle to marry my best friend. As I walked down the aisle, I didn’t see anyone else except for Derek, who was beaming as tears welled in his eyes. It was truly a magical moment.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Stay true to yourself, your vision and what you and your partner want on your wedding day! Don’t be discouraged by price! There are tons of ways to cut back on cost, as long as you are willing to get creative and put in the work.
