Briana and Taylor’s love story is every bit humorous just like them. Mutual friends of theirs invited them to celebrate one of their co-workers birthdays. They bonded over some Tom Petty music that was playing and talked a bit here and there throughout the night, but left without exchanging numbers. Then two days after they met, along with a Facebook friend, their love story started.
Q and A: Briana-Taylor Wedding-Casa Lantana
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Our day was exactly as I dreamed it would be! We wanted it to be outdoors with a woodsy/earthy feel with a vineyard-type twist. Everything that our vendors offered us complimented our vision and theme perfectly!
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
We had clean, white floral with lots of greenery with wooden and silver accents. We handmade our table signs and used table names in lieu of table numbers. The names were all types of wine. We decorated with old wooden wine crates and candles. It was simple, yet elegant and organic. For our ceremony, we created an arch using wood from our family’s vacation home in Michigan. It was so special to be able to have a piece of our second home with us on our big day.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
Our floral was mostly greenery, as we wanted an organic/earthy feel to our big day. We also used white, clean floral such as roses and hydrangeas. We even accented our simple wedding cake with Italian ruskus.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
We love to eat tapas style, so we decided to share our style of eating with all of our guests. We had food flowing all night long with various tapas at a buffet. We created signature drinks that reflected some of our favorites and even named them something that was personal to both myself and my husband.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
My dress was big and poufy! It was a beautiful Allure bridal, A-Line ball gown with a tulle skirt and lace and rhinestone bodice. It was the perfect amount of glitz and glam. I chose not to wear a veil and instead wore a rhinestone headpiece that was attached to the crown of my head. I kept my jewelry simple, as I’m not one to wear jewelry often.
My husband’s attire was an easy pick. He has fluorescent red hair and we were trying to find a suit color that didn’t wash him out. Navy was our only option! 🙂 We found a beautiful Michael Kors, navy blue suit and paired it with brown shoes for all of the groomsmen. They wore sage green ties to match our bridesmaids. Our bridesmaids all wore different style dresses, all were made by Bill Levkoff and in the Pistachio color.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met in a not-so-glamorous way – at a bar. A hole in the wall type bar, too. However, the proposal was incredibly magical. We were on a trip of a lifetime, exploring the Pacific coast of California. We started in San Francisco, turn the PCH down to Los Angeles, went up to Yosemite National Park and back to San Francisco. The proposal happened while we were in Santa Barbara. While at a local bar having drinks after dinner, we were discussing our plans for the following day. Taylor had expressed an interest to do a certain hike in the morning so, that was our plan!
However, it was so foggy – that while we were driving up the mountain to get to the trail, we could hardly see a thing. It was a little frightening, but Taylor insisted that we keep going. As soon as we got to the trail head, the fog lifted. It was incredible! We hiked up and found ruins to an old mansion that had apparently burnt down only days after it had been built. The view was amazing. We were surrounded by the Santa Ynez Mountains and it was the most incredible view. We were both walking around enjoying the view, when Taylor put the GoPro down on the ground and got on one knee. It was picture perfect and it was just us two, surrounded by the most beautiful view.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Our vows and our first dance. We had decided last-minute that we were going to write our own vows and I’m so glad we did. They were so personal and so perfect for both of us. To this day, we still have our guests tell us that it was the best part! Our first dance was also very special, as we dance together often in our own kitchen. It felt no different on this night – just us two dancing and singing away to “All of Me”. Taylor even snuck in a few spins, that our photographer captured PERFECTLY!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Go into your big day with the expectation that things may not go as planned and that it’s okay. It happens to absolutely everyone and chances are not a single guest will notice.
