Q and A: April-Vincent Wedding-Martins West
When did you meet and where?
He was in my sisters friend group and since my sister and I’m the older sister I never wanted to hang out with my younger sister and her friends because that wasn’t “cool.” Haha until I got older and my sister and I became best friends and shared all The same friends and Vinny and I ended up dating.
Was it love at first sight?
Definitely not haha lol I always remember him being this short little punk kid haha.
Who made the first move?
I did, I actually drove his date home that night and told him we were going to hang instead lol.
How did your relationship become “official?”
After we went out one night we literally never spent another night apart.
How long were you together before you got engaged?
In length, how exactly did it happen?
I got him and my dad virtual headsets for Christmas and my dad kept insisting for me to try on the headset and when I did (you can’t see when you have these on, so you’re totally unaware of your surroundings). So when I tried it on I was being very cautious of bumping into things and Vinny said take them off, and me thinking I was going to hit something lifted up the headset to find him on one knee.
How did you celebrate?
It was Christmas Day, and very intimate just him, my dad and I, so we just relaxed honestly.
How did you settle on a wedding date?
He doesn’t like fall weather and I didn’t want a super hot either so I thought what an awesome time Labor Day weekend would be. And in my opinion Labor Day is like the last good weekend of the summer, it’s the close out, so our wedding would be the perfect end to the summer.
Name three things you have in common.
Our love for family, we both like a good party and both are a bit flashy.
Give me three things you love to do together.
Try a new restaurant, ride our motorcycle or just relax with our puppies and also boating.
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Our wedding was the best party ever!! We wanted to stay away from such a Cookie cutter schedule, we wanted to maximize the reception time and just dance with everyone we love! Our scheme was nude pinks and earthy blush tones!
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
It was very airy and romantic, my mother in law is awesome with decorating and really has a nack for it! Super creative, she made all of the bouquets and ceremony / reception decor!
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
We wanted big flower poms as the centerpieces, no one knew but the morning of, on the way to the venue our 3ft vases shattered so we had to implement with candelabras… My mother in law made all of them out of fake flowers that looked, felt and smelled real!!
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
We had our photo booth double as a guest book! We also did something different with the garter removal! My husband pulled out different things from my dress before actually pulling off the garter!
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Ball gown for me, although I had said no ball gown. I was urged to try it on and felt the love! It was so glamorous and you couldn’t help but smile in it. Every time I tried my dress on our first dance song would play, and I’m big into signs, so that was it for me! I wanted a dress that would take the room, and it did! My bridesmaids, I wanted romantic and in a dress that would fit every body type and flatter, so I went maxi style with tulle for a bit of glamor in a blush tone. I had the groomsmen in all black for sleekness with matching ties to the girls to “tie” them all together.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Me walking down into the ceremony and seeing him in that moment and watching all of the other people disappear as if it was just us two.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Don’t worry about what ANYONE else wants. It’s your day, and you get to choose exactly what that means to you two, no one else.
