What happens when a couple falls in love on the Amalfi Coast?
They decide to get married there!
After visiting the enchanting Ravello, Arcady & Alicia decided to have their destination wedding at the Hotel Belmond Caruso. Their dreams were realized in May, when their families and friends joined them for four fabulous days, which they spent exploring Amalfi Coast and the Salerno Gulf on the Tyrrhenian Sea.
With the help of her wedding planner, Luba Gankin of Primavera Dreams, Alicia created welcome gifts for their guests, which included local delicacies such as Limoncello, delicious olives, and handmade ceramics.
The couple hired a Galeon El Pirata sailing ship for a day-long trip along the coast, offering their guests Prosecco and a lovely lunch. They signed a beautiful ketubah and enjoyed a rehearsal dinner at a gourmet restaurant Capo D’Orso which provided a terrace with incredible ocean views. A talented guitar and mandolin duo enriched the night with wonderful Neapolitan music. All of this culminated in a truly, fairy-tale wedding at Belmond Caruso.
The couple brought their friend Carla Malia, the owner of Carlafornia Blonde, San Fransisco. Carla is a fantastic makeup artist and stylist.
They also invited their Rabbi Batshir Torchio to join them and lead the ketubah signing.
The hotel’s resident chef created a glorious reception menu and a delicious cake.
Alicia’s vision for the decor was executed perfectly by the local talented floral designer Armando Malafronte. The couple opted for a flower-adorned and a country-chic reception dinner beneath the olive trees. The tables were decorated with beautiful flowers, greenery and elegant candelabras.
The dances took place in the gorgeous garden. The music reflected the multicultural and multigenerational tastes of the couple and their guests; everyone put on their dancing shoes!
The wedding cake was cut with the backdrop of the infinity pool, creating a genuinely surreal feeling.
The couple brought their adorable dogs, Tesla and Bailey. Both dogs proved to be the great travelers and were very well behaved.
The newlyweds and their guests enjoyed the unique experience, the breathtaking views, the authentic, delicious fresh food. Everyone was enchanted, experiencing the beautiful feeling of being together with their loved ones.
All of this was captured by the talented wedding photographer, Gianni Di Natale.
Q and A: Alicia-Arcady Wedding-Belmond Hotel Caruso
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
We visited the wedding venue four years ago while on vacation in Italy. While having a martini on the balcony, we looked over and spotted a beautiful wedding taking place. The views were breathtaking, and we joked about having our own wedding here one day. Four years later, while brainstorming ideas for a destination wedding, we remembered that moment and set our hearts on the Belmond Caruso. We had a Jewish wedding with a ketubah signing and the chuppah. The ketubah was signed after the sundown the night before at the rehearsal dinner. The couple also included their 4-pound white Maltipoo (Tesla) in the wedding.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
We decided to have a small intimate gathering (about 55 people) with understated classic European luxury with a bit of modern appeal. We chose subdued colors that would not take away from the breathtaking views of the venue.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
Colors: pale/ dusty pink, peach, white.
The flowers used for the tables: roses, peonies, hydrangeas, English roses.
Other details: Tall gold candelabras, gold vases with white and pale pink flowers at the bottom.
Candles in clear/ gold vases in different sizes.
The cake décor: olive greenery.
The bridal bouquet: Round, tied with white Peonies, Peach David Austin, Dusty Pink David Austin, Black-eyed Anemones, greenery, and Viburnum berries.
The bridesmaids: Floral crown with big white peonies, roses, and greenery (crowns instead of bouquets).
Chuppah structure with mostly white flowers on the top. Flowers used: roses, peonies, hydrangeas, English roses. Colors: pale/ dusty pink, peach, white.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Our wedding celebrations lasted a few days and included the sea trip on El Pirate Galeon along the Amalfi Coast and the picturesque rehearsal dinner in the gourmet restaurant Il Faro di Capo D’Orso. At the wedding, we had a DJ who played a variety of songs to accommodate the tastes of our guests as well as some traditional Jewish songs traditionally played at weddings.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
Alicia: The dress’ designer – The Vicenta dress by Pronovias. I purchased this dress second hand via Still White, from a bride in Santa Barbara, I also plan to sell or gift the dress to make another future bride happy. I tried on countless dresses over many months and this was the most comfortable but elegant look that was the perfect balance of modest but sexy.
I had a veil attached to her dress, a crystal headband and small fresh white roses. The shoes’ designer – Bella Belle Shoes, a small designer that I also found on Instagram and saw another bride wearing them on a greenweddingshoes publication.
Arcady: The groom wore a dark blue Hugo Boss tuxedo with Ted Baker tuxedo shoes. The cufflinks were a present from the bride the day of the wedding, and they featured the date and the latitude/longitude of the wedding location.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We are one of the last of our generation that met the old fashioned way through mutual friends at a birthday party in Brookline, MA way back in 2010. Sparks flew, and the night was filled with dancing in the street and a very romantic first kiss in a pile of fall leaves. The couple eventually started dating, and within 3 months decided to move to California together to start exciting jobs and go to graduate school. Within 6 months of dating, they packed up their stuff and found themselves in San Francisco living together for the next almost 7 years before getting married.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Once the day comes, enjoy the little moments. Have a glass of champagne, make jokes with your bridesmaids and groomsmen, and don’t worry about everything being a bit late. No wedding is perfect, so just let the time pass by slowly in your head and try to remember the little moments.
