It may have been insanely hot during Pam and Carl’s Up the Creek Farms engagement session but they were cool as cucumbers! Pam and Carl met in college and are now ready to make it official. They are getting married under the Oaks at Up the Creek Farms in May so we decided to also have their engagement session there. But to add some variety we headed over to the beach to catch the last rays of that beautiful Florida Sunshine. Pam picked the perfect dress for the beach. Navy blue with sea fans on it.
Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
Carl proposed at the top of the St. Augustine Lighthouse on May 5, 2018. 5 is Carl’s favorite number, as well as the former jersey number of his favorite baseball player Nomar Garciaparra, a fact they bonded over because Nomar and Pam share the same birthday. Also, their 5th anniversary was on May 9, 2018, so Carl made sure to get in as many 5s as possible. Carl asked Pam to take a quick day trip to one of their favorite places, and Pam, of course, was on board.
First stop of the day was Starbucks at 8 AM. With their coffee, Pam picked up some cake pops to eat on the road. Carl immediately ate his, which should have been a dead giveaway that Carl had a nervous stomach. Hint #1. Pam had a feeling it was the day Carl was going to propose, but didn’t want to spoil any of his surprises. Carl nervously fidgeted in the passenger seat as it began to rain and the first stop in St. Augustine was going to the lighthouse. When they stopped to switch drivers, Carl wouldn’t even let Pam have her purse! He even took it into the bathroom with him. Hint #2.
As they climbed to the top of the lighthouse, there were quite a few people. Pam was getting nervous that maybe she had been wrong and this wasn’t the day he was going to propose. After the massive crowd departed, Carl asked if Pam wanted to take a picture, and asked the woman next to them if she would take it. He apparently mouthed to her that he was going to propose, and a huge shout out to this random woman who woke up thinking she was just climbing a lighthouse and was then tasked with capturing this moment. She did an AMAZING job.
Carl said it has been the best five years of his life and that he couldn’t wait to spend the rest of his life with Pam… & their dog Gobi. In Pam’s eyes, it was truly the most special and magical place and words he could have chosen. They love lighthouses, and Pam always figured Carl would find a way to work one in… And he did. Carl and Pam finally purchased the Light House Passport Book that they have been wanting for years, and stamped their first entry – St. Augustine Light House, May 5, 2018.
