Q and A with the couple: Kaitlin-Brandon Engagement-Tumalo Falls
Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
Brandon and I actually met at a bar in Corvallis. He asked me to dance, I said yes, and the rest is history!
What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?
We are very much the same in our personalities and interests. We love hiking, kayaking, watching football and baseball (go beavers, seahawks, and mariners!), and most of all… brewing beer. We have always supported each other through school and work to achieve our goals. I think the most important thing is we are best friends and a couple; I had never realized the importance of that until meeting Brandon.
How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)
Early in our relationship, I think about 2 months in, we started planning a trip to Lake Tahoe. I had never taken a trip with a man, especially that far or for that long. We planned a week-long trip for 6 months down the line and I knew this was it; this is the one.
Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
Brandon had apparently been thinking about proposing for months before he actually did. Based on what his family told me, I thought it would be at least 5 years if not longer. As it turned out, he bought my ring 3 months before proposing (2 1/2 years in to our relationship) and was waiting for the right moment.
On November 4th of 2017 he asked if I wanted to go on a hike at Tumalo Falls. I said yes so there we went. At the bottom of the falls there were a lot of people so we hiked up till we found a spot to get off the main trail and down by the water. As we were standing there I looked up at him and he was giving me this strange look… he started telling me how much he loved me and how much I meant to him. He started pulling the box out of his pocket when I asked “what are you doing?!”. It was then he *almost* got down on one knee. It was snowy so he didn’t get all the way down and proposed to his bawling girlfriend.
Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
I have been planning my wedding since the engagement day. I never thought I would get married and as of that moment I actually was. I am so excited, we found our venue and photographer right off the bat and then came the dress. We will be brewing our own beer and incorporating hops and malts in to the decor for sure. The venue is so beautiful we didn’t feel the need for a lot of flowers, just keeping the colors bright with a view of the three sisters!
