Anyone who knows Emily is definitely aware that she absolutely adores waterfalls. Being a photographer herself, she is constantly planning little road trips here and there to hunt for them. More often than not, her fiancé, Brad, gets pulled into these trips.
This inspired him to plan his own trip with Emily to a waterfall that neither of them had ever been to. It was quite a hike up to this particular waterfall, but they kept on and finally arrived at their destination, where Brad got down on one knee to propose to Emily, much to her surprise!
After hearing their sweet proposal story, I knew the perfect location for their engagement session! We adventured up a forest service road in beautiful Harrison Hot Springs to one of my favourite waterfalls. It’s not an easy trip, nor a small feat to get up close to the waterfall, but our efforts were justified by the stunning results!
We also took advantage of our proximity to Harrison Lake and finished up our session on the beach before heading home. As we were driving back and the sun had dipped below the mountains, we ended up pulling off the road to take advantage of the little light we had left – dusk came with a vibrant sky that couldn’t be ignored!
It would be an understatement to say that this was the engagement session of the year for me – between the absolutely stunning scenery, and beautiful, genuine couple, and some amazing light, this session was one for the books!
Q & A with the bride: Emily-Brad Engagement-Harrison Hot Springs
Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
Brad and I went to school together since I was in grade 7 but we didn’t officially meet until I was in grade 12 and he was one year graduated! It’s crazy to say but we met over social media, Snapchat to be exact! He put his Snapchat name on instagram and I decided to add him and then he messaged me on Snapchat and then it was history!
What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?
Brad and I have so many things that make our relationship unique! We both love to adventure outdoors pretty much anywhere! We go hiking, kayaking, 4x4ing and waterfall chasing! The last one is probably our favorite as Brad and I are always looking for new waterfalls! We also always push each other out of our comfort zone and adventure to new places! We also no matter what want the best for each other and would do absolutely anything for each other!
How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)
We went on a couple dates and the third one, we went on a hike to a beautiful waterfall! It was an amazing day and when we were back at our vehicles we sat on his tailgate and talked for a while! It just felt so easy to open up to him and he made me the happiest I’ve ever been! Then all a sudden out of no where he kisses me and that was the moment I knew it was him and I for the rest of our lives! He always surprises me and it just always makes me think of that moment and how special it was!
Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
It was a complete surprise to me! I had no idea it was coming! Okay so Brad and I have been searching for this waterfall of a long time and we finally had a day where we both weren’t working so we decided to go and find this waterfall! Little did I know he already had this whole day planned and knew we were gonna go this day a long time ago!
We drove about an hour away from where we live and got to the place where we thought lead to it and started hiking up! It was a super hot day and I was exhausted going up the hill! Also a side note I’m terrified of bears, so while we are hiking which it’s in the middle of no where I’m telling Brad we should turn around cause what if a bear comes out or something! But he said nope you can do it babe I’m here and I have my bear spray we will be okay!
So we kept hiking and finally make it to what looked like a path, we started walking down it and the further we went the more you could start hearing the water! Finally we made it we could see the waterfall I was so excited because I’ve always wanted to find this waterfall and only a handful of people have ever been to it! When we got down to it Brad and I walked onto the deck that was built above the water looking at the waterfall and right away I got my camera out and started taking pictures of course! I’m a photographer so of course I had to!
While I was taking pictures enjoying the falls Brad was looking through his backpack and then he walked up behind me and hugged me! He told me he loved me and then said Emily and stepped back and I turned about and he was on one knee!!!! I couldn’t believe it I started screaming and crying I was so overwhelmed with joy! I said YES of course! We cried and hugged! Then after we started to settle down he put the ring on my finger and we just hung out at the beautiful waterfall and enjoyed the rest of our day that will forever be one of my favourite days!!!
Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
YES! So excited! I’ve been thinking of so many ideas and decor, I can’t wait for the day! I’m thinking of long beautiful harvest tables and just a relaxed wedding! Our ceremony will be on a little farm in our town just at the bottom of my all time favourite mountain! Then our reception is at my parents house because they have 14 aches so we are gonna do country rustic style and put up a big clear span tent and have our reception there! I want it to be a fun relaxed day and for everyone to enjoy it! It will have lights hung everywhere and candles and greenery along all the tables and old rustic barn wood made into a wall for behind the head table! It will be the best day ever and I’m so excited to share it with all my friends and family! I can’t wait to marry my best friend!!
