From Melissa Brewer Photography:
This couple met at a mutual friend’s party, but quickly realized that they had already worked together a couple of years earlier at a performance. Claire is the principal ballerina for Columbia City Ballet, and Mark is a professional jazz trumpeter, band leader, and an award-winning musician.
Their first official date was after one of Claire’s performances in The Nutcracker, and it was clear no false fronts were up as they were both very comfortable in their “weirdness” with each other. After that, they gradually got to know each other more and more, which was often complicated due to their busy performance and rehearsal schedules, but there was no denying that they were just natural together.
They have accomplished so much together and are each other’s biggest fan in each of their respective careers.
In their own words:
“It seems the time we’ve known each other has been a whirlwind of laughs, music, dance, smiles, and fun, with a lot of life thrown into the mix, and we can’t wait to create a lifetime of happiness and love together. We are so excited to get married at our dear friend’s home and the night will be filled with music from close friends. We can’t wait to celebrate with lots of music, dancing, family, and friends! – Claire & Mark”

In less than a month, this sweet couple will become husband and wife. Based on how much fun their engagement session was and how obvious it is that they’re madly in love, there’s not a doubt in my mind that their wedding will be an incredibly amazing and special event! __________________________________________ The unique love that’s shared here and in all of my photos got me thinking about how many of my clients express nervousness before their sessions yet leave the session feeling like old friends. It makes perfect sense! I mean, can you imagine being this vulnerable in front of a stranger with a camera? Just think about it for a second. You set a date, arrange your schedule, and head to have hair and makeup done. You pore over Pinterest, spend weeks thinking about outfits, and head to the shoot location two hours before sunset, not quite knowing what to expect. SO many clients have told me they were a bundle of nerves before their session, worrying about awkwardness, worrying that they’ll have to come up with their own poses, or worrying that they wouldn’t look their best. Every single person who has shared those feelings has gone on to say that they loved every minute of their session. •Worried about posing? I give thorough yet natural instruction that takes every tiny detail into account, and breaks the ice at the beginning of your session. •Worried about awkward silences? Wellll that’s not a thing I’ve ever allowed to happen 🙊😅 •Worried about what to wear or where to shoot? My 7-page style guide not only covers wardrobe ideas, it also covers venue suggestions. Some people may want a rolling field, while others want to pay homage to their first dates by having their session at a brewery or favorite bar; adventurous couples may choose to stand on the edge of a cliff 8,000 feet above sea level, while others want to walk and dance barefoot in the sand next to the ocean — and I will happily follow you to ANY of those places! If you can’t decide on a place, I have tons of suggestions! •Worried about natural emotions or letting yourself relax? Trust me, in the 1-2 hours we’re together, I will help you dial in those feelings that made you decide to…
