From Brit Nicole Photography:
1 year into marriage, Daniel’s new bride passed away suddenly from meningitis just a few short months after giving birth to their first little boy. The whole city mourned.
2 years later, Daniel found that love again. He found someone who fiercely loves his little boy with all her heart. He can give that little boy the mother he needs.

“Amber and I have the same sense of humor, think the same things are important in life, and have always really enjoyed being together…like all the time. Our relationship has always felt easy, right, and good. It’s honest. That’s something that’s always made it feel easy. I’ve always felt like she respected what I had, and we haven’t let that get in the way of making our life together everything it can be. Seeing her and Logan together and knowing she’ll always love him put it over the top for me. When you know, you know; and I couldn’t wait any longer.” – Daniel

Our story first begins in January of 2017. We both attended the same board meeting. Daniel was attending to be hired by Dumas ISD that night and I was having to give a presentation. We didn’t meet that night, and to be honest, I didn’t even know he existed because I was too nervous to notice anything.
Fast forward to August 2017, I kept hearing about the new CFO and how we had to meet but I just brushed it off. I had just gone back to school for teacher in-service and low and behold the new CFO was taking a tour of my school with the other administrators. I was messing around with some teacher friends of mine and was walking backwards in the hallway when I walked straight into Daniel. I quickly apologized and was mortified because I knew who he was and he knew who I was but we STILL hadn’t officially met yet.
Fast forward again to October when we had our school-wide pajama day. Teachers participated, and my go-to pajama outfit is always my full-length giraffe onesie, equipped with a giraffe hood and ears. It was time for my lunch and I made my way to the teacher’s lounge when I realized that today, of all days, was the day when the administrators brought us lunch and ate with us in the teacher’s lounge. Once again I was mortified and grabbed my lunch quickly and sat down at one of the tables. There was Daniel sitting there with all of the administrators, both of us awkward, we STILL did not meet.
Through some matchmaking helpers, Daniel finally got my number and texted me later that week. He asked me to lunch and even though I was very hesitant, I agreed. We met for lunch one day and we had lots to talk about, mostly because I’m a “talker” and don’t ever shut-up.
Our story is not like most. When I first heard about Daniel and his past, I was told that he had been married before and they had a sweet little boy named Logan. Shortly after their son was born, his wife passed away. This was one of the most terrible stories I had ever heard. When Daniel and I got closer I was able to hear the raw, unedited version of his story. It was heart wrenching. This brought us closer and in turn we developed a trust that I had yet to experience in a relationship.
One of the first things I loved about Daniel was how good of a father he was. I remember meeting Logan for the first time. It was around Thanksgiving and we drove to Amarillo to get a few things for his family’s Thanksgiving dinner. I was super nervous because I not only had to impress Daniel but now I had to impress a two-year old.
Logan and I bonded over snapchat filters and we bonded over manipulating Daniel to take us to feed the ducks at Medi Park. He was one of the funniest kids I had ever met.
We spend our days laughing and dancing to the Trolls soundtrack. We watch cooking shows and The Incredibles daily. They are my best friends and I feel very blessed to be a part of both of their lives. Even though I was so nervous going into our first date, I am so happy that I did because it led to our forever.
