From Events by Lift: Alicia-Craig Engagement
It’s not off-putting these days to hear about manifestation — like attracts like — in fact, it’s more real than ever and especially for Alicia and Craig. Independently, they set intentions to find each other, and in that moment of manifestation they allowed their energy to reach across state lines and pull each other in.
Alicia and Craig are two spiritually enlightened, insanely creative, passionately romantic souls who love coffee, culture, and storytelling. To match their Spanish-inspired and geometric shaped wedding, we headed out to Coffee and Flowers and The Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park for their engagement session.
Q & A with the bride: Alicia-Craig Engagement
Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
Front row of Phish concert at Sleep Train Amphitheatre (now Mattress Firm Amphitheatre) in San Diego, CA.
What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?
We share the gift of being clean and sober together which continually grows our spirituality as individuals and in our partnership. His calmness balances my high energy and vice versa. Even in the most serious of times we can always find humor. We are a blended canine family-Cammie (Craig’s dog) and my dog Trey have become great canine step siblings.
How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)
When we met I was 42 and content to have never been married. Although we met on my current home turf in San Diego he was living in Portland, OR so our relationship was built long-distance. Each phone conversation sparked magical electricity which we both felt. For a little over a year I always had a trip or visit from him to look forward to. I can’t say there was one moment in particular but rather many big and small moments that lead me to know Craig the undeniable one that I wanted to share my life with.
Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
Just a few weeks before our engagement Craig and I were in New York for the holidays. Craig had let my parents know he was going to propose which led to them giving him my Grandmother’s ring to do so. He and I took a long weekend trip to Joshua Tree, during our first hike of the trip we came across a secluded area which we later discovered was “Mount Inspiration”. I immediately noticed a fun piece of environmental art that another hiker had left behind-a rock with a wire arrow pointing to San Diego. I grabbed my phone to snap a photo, then lowered it to adjust the filter setting and looked through the lens again only to see my Grandmother’s ring on top of that rock. I turned around to him and he said “I want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me?” Craig later told me he didn’t have a plan to propose but rather brought the ring on our weekend getaway, carried it in his pocket and waited for the time that he felt ‘”inspired” to do so 😉
Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
It only took 2 weeks after our engagement to find our venue, Darlington House, and a month later to fill in all the big gaps of planning. I now have 7 months to plan all the little details in between!
